carol wallace

Carol Wallace GMS Arts/CMH Liaison
Carol has been a supervisor for CMHCM for over 20 years.  She has lived in Midland all her life and is a graduate with her Masters and License in Counseling from CMU.  Her hobbies include making jewelry, sports and the great outdoors.

chris peeler

Chris Peeler, GMS Arts/CMH Liaison
Chris has worked as a Supports Coordinator at CMHCM for 12 years.  He is originally from Findlay, Ohio and graduated from Bowling Green State University.  His wife Nancy is a Midland Native.  Christ noted that his love of the Arts and appreciation of the creative spirit stem from his training as a musician.  He has enjoyed drumming with Loose Ties, the Resonators, the Midland Symphony Orchestra, and numerous area musical groups.

Kristin Nelb

Kristin Nelb GMS Office Manager has just recently gotten involved with GMS through working backstage on the summer productions Clue the Musical and Auschwitz Echoes.  This Dow High graduate completed three years at the Kalamazoo College for history and American Studies.

Cheri, Drawing I Instructor

Cheri has been with GMS since 2004. She has an Art Major from Central Michigan University. She taught Art, General Education and Special Education for 20 years in public schools.

Kay Collison

Kay Collison, Drama Instructor and GMS Advisory Committee Secretary.

Kay has been involved with GMS since 1997. She is a graduate of Midland High School and studied vocal music at Michigan State University.She directed musical theatre productions for Teenage Musicals and Theatre Guild. She worked in the Marketing and Public Relations department of the Theatre Guild for the Midland Center For The Arts (MCFTA). She also worked in the MCFTA Education and Outreach program from 2000-2005 as Associate Director. She was involved with GMS Arts in Human Services at the MCFTA from 1992-2000.

Jim Fulkerson

Jim Fulkerson, Music I and Music II Instructor.

Jim is the longest running Instructor having been involved with the program since 1993. He is a graduate of Midland Public Schools and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He has been a drummer in various bands over the years. He gives private drum, percussion and piano lessons at his Fulkerson Music Studio. He also is the founder and director of the Resonators Percussion Ensemble.

Consuelo Talia Gabriel, Jewelry Making Instructor.

Consuelo became a GMS Arts Instructor in 2006 teaching Jewelry Making and Associated Crafts. She is a registered nurse educator at the Center for Women's Health of Mid Michigan Medical Center. In her Jewelry Making class she teaches wire coiling for jewelry making. The students also make bracelets, necklaces, sun catchers and dream catchers. She has taught sun catcher making at the Shelter House of Midland and she instructed jewelry making at the Creative Spirit Center of MIdland.

Katherine Gracer

Katherine Gracer, Tap, Stretch, Ami Dance, and Dance Fun 101 Instructor.

Katherine has a Bachelor's in Social Work and is a Lebed method Instructor. She has danced for 25 years and instructed for 16 years at her own studio. She has experience working with chemical dependent clients for 9 years and has experience working with community mental health clients and has worked with the Family Independent Agency. She is also certified to teach dance therapy to breast cancer survivors.

Jan Lampman

Jan Lampman, Kung Fu Instructor.

Jan has a BA in Business and Psychology from Saginaw Valley State University She has been the Director of the ARC since 2001 and has worked there since 1993. She's worked with people with disabilities since 1985 and has trained in kung fu since 1998.

 

Dorothy Moll

Dorothy Moll, Vocal Music Instructor.

Dorothy has a Master's degree in Music in organ performance from Syracuse University and Bachelor's degree in Music Education. She has been an elementary school choir director and she has taught private organ and piano lessons. She is a church organist and choir director and a substitute organist.

Joan Most, Events Coordinator

Along with her duties as Events Coordinator, Joan teaches Monday Painting at Northwood Student Union, Tuesday Clay & Crafts at the Midland Community Center, Tuesday 3-D Art at the Midland Community Center, Friday Advanced Clay at the Midland Community Center. She has been teaching at GMS since 1996 and Events Coordinator since 1999.

Daughter of local artist, James Hopfensperger, Joan has worked with her father on commissions for stained glass windows and large scale bronze sculptures since childhood. She attended Delta College and Northwestern. She also worked as a graphic artist for many years and co-owned and operated a graphics arts agency for thirteen years. She has been an art instructor for several agencies in the Midland area and has taught for the Midland Community Center and Northwood University for many years. She also teaches private lessons and workshops in drawing, sculpture, painting, jewelry, mixed media, pottery and design.

Work experience includes: Hopfensperger Architectural Arts Studio, Nelson Advertising, Lightwriter Graphic Arts, Dow Chemical Company, McMillian Illustrating, Midland Photography Studios, Heart Graphic Design, Midland Community Center, Northwood University, Design Craftsmen Inc., and Community Mental Health for Central Mihigan as well as numerous commissions. Her work has been published in American Corporate Identity and other publications. Some of the sculpture locations include: Midland Tridge, Caldwell Ramp, Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Kaukauna WI, United Methodist Church, Midland Community Center, Marinette WI. Midland Sister City (Japan), Cairo (Egypt), Indian River, and numerous other locations throughout Michigan and Wisconsin.

Mark Oliver

Mark Oliver, Painting III Instructor.

Mark has been involved with GMS since its inception in 1992. He has been and still is a student assistant in many classes. He has performed in many GMS plays and skits. Has written many plays performed by the GMS Drama Class. He graduated from Midland High School in 1975 and has been painting in watercolors and acrylics since 1992. Currently he serves as the Vice President of the GMS Arts Advisory Commitee.

Teresa Oliver

Teresa Oliver, Acrylic Painting, Crafts, and Quilting Instructor.

Teresa has been involved with GMS Arts since 2004.She graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and she was a registered pharmacist. She was an art teacher at Chippawassee Elementary for 2 years and she was a crafts leader for the Silver Snaffle 4-H club.

Will Rickel

Will Rickel, Woodworking Instructor.

Will first started teaching Woodworking for GMS in the fall of 2002. He is a high school graduate with some college credits. He also completed a four-year electrical apprenticeship and subsequently worked for forty-two years as a construction electrician. He has also worked on various volunteer projects.

 

 

Diane Tilford

Diane Tilford, Co-Instructor GMS Crafts, Instructor for Jewelry and Movie Matinee.

Diane has been involved with GMS since 2002. She took art classes in high shool and has taken art classes at GMS. She started out as a student assistant in GMS classes before working her way up to being an instructor.

Kathrine Smith Ceramics Class Instructor:

Kathrine is a graduate of Great Lakes Junior College with a degree in Paralegal.  She never she knew she was artistic until she began drawing and painting at GMS. After participating in classes at GMS Kathrine decided she wanted to give back to GMS.  She hopes this class will give fellow students as much enjoyment and confidence as GMS continues to give her.
